The investigation into the
case of a dacoit killed in a police encounter and two policemen injured in
Assam's Udalguri district has been handed over to the CID. Chief Minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma has given instructions to the Director General of Police GP
Singh (DGP) to conduct the investigation on Monday.
A statement issued from
the chief minister's office said Sarma directed the DGP to initiate a CID probe
to ascertain the factual details of the Udalguri incident involving the death
of the dacoit, the injury to two policemen and the recovery of weapons. Along
with this, Sarma has instructed the DGP to complete the CID investigation
within two weeks. The deceased was identified as Kenaram Basumatari of Natun
Panbari village in Udalguri. Police said the body was handed over to the
family, who buried it on Friday evening.Police claimed that Basumatary was a former NDFB militant, wanted in
several cases of armed robberies in Assam as well as neighboring Meghalaya and
had been arrested with weapons on previous occasions. Subsequently, the family
of another person Dimbeshwar Muchahari of Jengrenpara village in neighboring
Baksa district came to the Udalguri Superintendent of Police's office on
Saturday evening, claiming it was his body. was

DNA profiling can be done to verify the claim of the identity of the deceased.
