BJP candidate Tshering Lhamu
has been declared unopposed from Lumla Assembly seat in Arunachal Pradesh.
Tshering Lhamu, wife of former MLA Jambe Tashi, was the only candidate on the

(BJP) candidate Tshering Lhamu was on Friday declared as the MLA without any
contest. Tshering Lhamu, wife of former MLA Jambe Tashi, was the only candidate
who filed her nomination for the by-election to the seat. The death of her husband
in November last year necessitated the bypoll to the seat.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Liken Koyu said the returning
officer Rinchin Dorjee Thungon declared the results at 3 pm after the deadline
for withdrawal of nominations had expired. He said the election certificate has
been handed over to Lhamu. Although the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA)
fielded former 'village burha' or village headman Leki Norbu as its candidate
for the by-election, But he withdrew from the contest. Tashi, who had represented
the constituency for three consecutive terms since 2009, died at a hospital in
Guwahati at the age of 48. Assembly elections in the northeastern state are due
next year and are expected to be held along with the Lok Sabha elections. With
this victory, the ruling BJP's tally of seats in the 60-member House has gone
up to 49. Four each of the opposition Congress and the National People's Party
(NPP) There are MLAs, while there are also three independent MLAs.
