Had a heavy drinking with friend, Bangladeshi crossing the border reached jail

Agartala: An invitation from a friend to a Bangladeshi citizen for a 'drink on the border' turned out to be costly. Antarchandra Sarkar is currently lodged in Tripura jail, while his friend Tapan Chandra Sarkar has been released by the police after questioning. Tapan had arrived from Bangladesh on September 27 on a valid visa. The police interrogated both of them after being caught. During this, the police released him after getting proper papers with Tapan. According to the police, both the friends are natives of Brahminbaria district of the neighboring country. The two friends were reportedly enjoying liquor in Kamalasagar area of West Tripura on Sunday. Then BSF jawans caught both the people. The BSF later handed them over to Madhupur police station. During the police investigation, Tapan was released after producing his passport and visa. Tapan said in a statement to the police that he had come to visit Tripura. After coming to India, he remembered friend Antar and expressed his desire to meet. Police investigation also revealed that Antar does not have a passport. So Tapan went to a town in Sepahijala district of Tripura and called up his friend Antar.

Police say Tapan asked Antar to cross the barbed wire fence at the international border at Kamalasagar. Responding to Tapan's behest, Antara illegally entered Indian territory. After which both of them sat down to drink alcohol near a pond on the border of India on Sunday. It was decided between the two friends that after drinking alcohol, Antar would return to Bangladesh. But before this, a soldier posted on the border caught both of them. Police said that apart from the SIM card of the Bangladeshi national and some documents, currency of both the countries, a bag full of narcotics, bottles of Indian-made liquor, bidis, cigarettes and tobacco have been recovered from the Bangladeshi national.
